Beefier bumpers, bigger tyres, and squarish tail lamps look inspired by the new Celerio.
An overhauled cabin is expected with likely feature additions such as rear power windows and an updated instrument cluster.
Should retain the 48PS 0.8-litre petrol engine but could gain the S-Presso’s new 67PS 1-litre petrol engine option.
Prices likely to start from Rs 3.5 lakh.
We know that Maruti Suzuki has been working on introducing a new iteration of the Alto, with the hatchback being spotted multiple times under heavy disguise. Now the new-gen Alto has made an appearance again, this time being rid of all the camo and revealing a fair bit of changes.
For starters, you’ll immediately notice the new Alto looks a fair bit larger and especially taller than its predecessor. Part of it could be down to the hatchback now possibly being based on the Heartect platform, similar to the S-Presso and the new Celerio.
We also noticed a beefier rear bumper, larger tyres, as well as squarish and bulbous tail lamps inspired by the new Celerio. Early camouflaged images of the front suggest a new set of headlights.
Under the hood, Maruti’s trusted 0.8-litre petrol engine (making 48PS/69Nm, and 41PS/60Nm in CNG) should be retained. That being said, it could get the S-Presso’s new 67PS, 1-litre petrol option. The 5-speed manual gearbox should remain standard, with an AMT transmission option probably being introduced for the 1-litre motor.
Expect Maruti Suzuki to launch the 2022 Alto around the festive season this year, with prices starting from Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It’ll rekindle its rivalry against the Renault Kwid.
