Suzuki has launched the 2022 GSX250R abroad. The 2022 iteration comes in a new blue-black dual-tone livery, called Metallic Crystal Blue / Pearl Nebular Black, replacing the white and black colour scheme from the 2021 model. Interestingly, the 2022 livery is the same as the one featured in the 2020 model. The bike is priced at USD 4,999 (about Rs 3.84 lakh), which is around Rs 3,800 dearer than the 2021 iteration.
Reverting to the older colour scheme seems to be the easy way out, and we wish Suzuki had given the bike a proper MotoGP treatment like it did with the desi Suzuki Gixxer SF 250. There have been no mechanical changes in the 2022 Suzuki GSX250R either. The bike continues to be powered by a 248cc liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine churning out 25PS and 23.3Nm, linked to a 6-speed transmission. Underpinnings include a telescopic fork, seven-step preload-adjustable rear monoshock, Nissin petal discs with dual-channel ABS and IRC tyres.
Other notable features include a five-way adjustable brake lever, halogen headlight with LED DRLs, LED tail lamp and a digital instrument cluster. Suzuki should’ve given the 2022 iteration an LED headlight and a smartphone-compatible instrument cluster to keep up with the times.
At 790mm, the seat is fairly accessible, and the bike is slightly on the heavier side at 181kg kerb. However, it has the potential to be a good tourer thanks to the not-so-aggressive ergonomics, and a fairly large 15-litre fuel tank. All in all, it seems like Suzuki missed the opportunity to update the motorcycle with more meaningful updates to stay relevant in the competitive 250cc segment. If you’re looking for a bike in this category, the KTM RC 200, Bajaj Pulsar RS200 and the Yamaha R15 V4 come close. You can also opt for the more expensive, more powerful and feature-packed TVS Apache RR 310.
