There it is! Kia India has taken the wraps off the facelifted Seltos in the country. It’ll be a while before the revised compact SUV will go on sale as the Korean marque will announce prices soon. And if you want to reserve one, the Korean marque will commence bookings from July 14 onwards. This is the first major update for the nameplate, which has been on sale since August 2019, in India. So without further ado, let’s get cracking to see what’s new.
By now, you must be knowing what all the design changes are thanks to multiple teases and spy images. However, here’s a quick brush up. The ‘Tiger Nose’ grille has now grown larger in size and the LED DRLs up front are reprofiled and extend in the centre of the grille. A tweaked front bumper with the signature tri-element fog lamps keeps things fresh.
In profile, the Seltos now gets the 18-inch alloy rims that were offered in the X-Line trim, giving it a much beefier stance. Spotting the changes at the rear is the easiest as the Seltos now gets a new set of connected tail lamps that look modern. A tweaked rear bumper rounds off the overall design.
Like before, the Seltos will come in three broad trims: Tech Line, GT Line and X-Line.
Step inside and your eyes will be drawn to the new dual 10.25-inch integrated displays - comprising the touchscreen infotainment system and fully digital driver’s display - a la the EV6. It looks premium and upmarket. To accommodate this new layout, the central AC vents are now slimmer. Also, there’s a new interior colour scheme to choose from: black / tan. This is offered alongside the existing options that include all-black and black / beige.
Kia has thrown in a handful of new features in the Seltos that make it more appealing than before. These include a panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brake with auto hold, dual-zone climate control and most importantly, ADAS.
Bits such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, connected car tech, ventilated front seats, drive and traction modes, Bose sound system and heads-up display have been retained. And as for safety, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
With this update, Kia has also plonked in its new 160PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. It will be sold alongside the existing 1.5-litre diesel and petrol engine options. To make life easier for you, we have compiled the specifications in an easy-to-read table:
1.5-litre Turbo-petrol (New) |
1.5-litre Diesel |
1.5-litre Petrol |
|
Power (PS) |
160PS |
116PS |
115PS |
Torque (Nm) |
253Nm |
250Nm |
144Nm |
Transmission Options |
6-speed MT / 7-speed DCT |
6-speed iMT / 6-speed AT |
6-speed iMT / CVT |
Considering the incredible number of updates, we suspect the facelifted Seltos to command a notable premium over the outgoing model that was priced from Rs 10.89 lakh (ex-showroom). It will continue locking horns with the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq as well as the upcoming Honda Elevate and Citroen C3 Aircross.
