Fronx SUV slots between Baleno and Grand Vitara.
Offered with a 1.2-litre NA petrol unit from the Baleno and marks return of 1-litre turbo petrol engine.
Could get a CNG option with the base-spec engine later on.
Launch expected in the coming weeks with prices likely starting from Rs eight lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.
The Maruti Fronx crossover has begun reaching dealerships ahead of its price announcement that’s expected in March 2023. The subcompact crossover-SUV is based on the Maruti Baleno and will face-off against the hotly contested segment that includes the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and its own stablemate, the Brezza.
The Fronx will be retailed through Maruti’s premium Nexa showrooms and is currently on display at select dealerships. Here are the images.
On the outside, the Fronx is a snazzy-looking SUV with split LED headlights and a Grand Vitara-esque grille design. It looks sleek in the profile and the chunky side cladding adds to the crossover aesthetic.
At the rear, the SUV has connected LED taillights, a sloping roofline and faux skid plate below the bumper, making for a sporty-looking rear-end overall.
Similar to the Baleno, the Fronx is feature-loaded with equipment such as a nine-inch touchscreen, an Arkamys-tuned premium audio system, a wireless phone charger, heads-up display, cruise control, six airbags and a 360-degree camera. However, it does miss out on a sunroof that some other SUVs in the segment offer.
It has two engine options – a base-spec 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine and the iconic 1-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine (offered in Baleno RS earlier) that makes a comeback paired with a mild-hybrid system.
