Kawasaki has launched the 2024 Kawasaki Z650RS in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 6,99,000. The new version was first launched for the international market in 2023 and included a new 2-level traction control feature. Now this same version has been launched in India as well.
With this update the bike now only comes in one colour scheme, Ebony/Matte Metallic Grey. Earlier it used to be offered in two colours: Candy Diamond Brown, and Metallic Moondust Grey and Ebony.
The Z650RS now gets two-mode Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC). Mode 1 is the less intrusive of the two, and is useful for sport riding. Mode 2, meanwhile, more actively detects excessive wheel spin, and so is useful when riding in wet conditions.
Other than the addition of the 2-mode traction control system, the performance of the Z650RS remains unchanged. The bike is powered by the same 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine making 68PS at 8000rpm and 64Nm at 6700rpm.
The Z650RS is built on a trellis frame and is suspended on a telescopic fork with 125mm wheel travel and a monoshock with 130mm wheel travel. The bike rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends wrapped in tubeless tyres. Braking duties are taken care of by dual 272mm discs up front and a single 186mm rear disc.
Apart from the aforementioned traction control system, the bike comes with a semi-digital instrument console with dual analogue dials for the speedometer and tachometer. There’s also a small digital inset which shows the fuel level, gear position, and engine temperature along with the odometer and trip meters.
The only truly retro alternative to the Z650RS is the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, which is also much more affordable. Meanwhile its alternatives in the neo-retro segment include the Moto Morini Seiemmezzo 6 1/2 and Honda CB650R.
