2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift Vxi (O) vs Tata Tiago Top-spec Variant: Cross-shopping Simplified

In this comparison, we have the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift, which was recently launched with a fresh design, a significantly upgraded cabin and a new three-cylinder engine, on one hand. On the other hand, we have the smaller Tata Tiago, which has been in the market for a couple of years and has proven to be a good alternative to entry-level Maruti hatchbacks. To keep it similarly priced, we will be comparing the mid-spec Vxi (O) automatic variant of the Swift with the top-spec XZ+ variant of the Tiago.

Price

As seen in the table above, the aforementioned variants are similarly priced, with the Swift being slightly more expensive than the Tiago. 

Size

The Maruti Swift and Tata Tiago are two very different cars in terms of design and styling. Both the hatchbacks are compact in size, but it's the Swift which is the larger vehicle here.

With the generation update, the Swift’s cabin has been completely revamped. It now gets a dashboard layout similar to that of more premium Maruti cars like the Baleno and the Fronx. The Tiago on the other hand gets a dated dashboard layout, with the touchscreen placed in between the AC vents and AC controls.

From the above list, it’s clear that the Tiago packs in more features, such as automatic climate control, cruise control and rain-sensing wipers. However, the Swift gets additional airbags over the Tiago. Both get the same sized touchscreens, but the Maruti unit supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well but the Tata unit only supports them via a USB cable.

Powertrain 

As seen in the table above, both the hatchbacks come equipped with 3-cylinder petrol engines, but the Tiago actually has 4 PS and 1 Nm more to offer. Both the hatchbacks also get the same choice of manual and automatic transmissions. 

A point to note is that the Tiago is also offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit, which is ideal for those wanting to save fuel money. While the Maruti Swift loses the CNG option on the new-gen model for now, it is expected to be introduced later this year.

Verdict 

Our pic here would be the top-spec Tata Tiago over the mid-spec Maruti Suzuki Swift. The Tiago gets a more feature-rich cabin for this price, and also comes with premium design elements like dual-tone alloys and LED DRLs. Additionally, the Tiago has 4-star safety rating from the GNCAP in 2020.
