While the Punch and Magnite are essentially from different segments, similar pricing and a comparable equipment list makes for an interesting comparison

Nissan recently launched the facelifted Magnite in India at a very attractive introductory price. With the facelifted version, it got minor updates to the exterior and some new premium touches in the interior. In this article, we will be comparing its specifications with the popular Tata Punch micro SUV which comes at a similar price and offers a rather comparable package as a whole. As seen above, the Magnite is the longer and wider of the two. It also has a greater wheelbase which leads to more space in the cabin, at least on paper. The Punch on the other side, is taller and has a slightly larger boot space on offer.

There are hits and misses on both sides. The Magnite gets a 360-degree camera, 4 extra airbags (total 6), a fully digital driver’s display, ambient lighting and LED headlamps over the Punch.

The Punch is offered with the larger engine, but it is the turbo-charged petrol engine of the Magnite which generates the most output. The Magnite also offers a CVT gearbox option for those who want a smoother automatic transmission option. The Nissan also gets an additional engine option in the form of the NA petrol unit, which is available with the same transmission options as the Tata Punch.

Apart from the abovementioned powertrain, the Punch is also available with a factory-fitted CNG kit. There is no CNG option available with the Magnite. 

Rivals

The Tata Punch directly rivals the Hyundai Exter, Renault Kiger and Maruti Suzuki Ignis. The Magnite on the other hand, locks horns with the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Fronx, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
