Tata Nexon spied again, likely to be the CNG model
Nexon CNG was unveiled at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo
Tata Nexon CNG is equipped with 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine
Likely to be offered with both manual and AMT options.
Comes with Tata’s twin-cylinder technology with a usable boot space of 230 litres
Launch expected soon and could command a Rs 1 lakh premium over the petrol model
Tata is redefining CNG vehicles for the masses, literally! First the dual cylinder layout for added practicality, then the AMT CNG powertrain with the Tiago and Tigor and now a turbocharged CNG powertrain. The innovation in this field has been relentless from the Indian carmaker. Given that the last one is a first in the entire country, proper testing is inevitable and we reckon this spied test mule is exactly that – a CNG Nexon being put through the routine test procedure.
Now, the Nexon CNG first broke cover at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo, alongside the Dark edition variants. Given that the latter has now been launched, Tata only has the Nexon CNG awaiting a launch.
It will be offered with the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine found in the regular Nexon, where it delivers 120 PS and 170 Nm. But you can expect a reduced output while running in CNG mode. A manual transmission would be the standard gearbox choice, but Tata could also offer the option of an AMT to further widen the appeal, considering the Tiago and Tigor get an AMT with the CNG option.
The dual cylinder technology is a Tata USP now and will be seen on the Nexon CNG as well. Thanks to the clever layout, it will boast a boot space of 230 litres. You won’t even have to compromise a spare tyre for it, as the stepney is mounted below the vehicle.

We reckon Tata will offer the Nexon CNG in the higher trims as well, which will pack a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, a wireless phone charger, cruise control, and keyless entry with push button start/stop. Safety kit will include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The CNG Nexon could launch in the coming months and will attract a price premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the standard car, which starts from Rs 8.15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the CNG-powered Maruti Suzuki Brezza, as well as the ICE-powered variants of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, and Nissan Magnite.
