Toyota has taken the wraps off the 2024 Vellfire and Alphard MPVs. For the unknown, the Alphard is the more luxurious version of the already opulent Vellfire. But we folks in India can only have our hands on the Vellfire MPV, so that’s the model we’ll be focusing on in this report. So without further ado, here are five things you need to know about the 2024 Vellfire:
Yes, the Vellfire is still clearly identified as a van with its boxy proportions and slab-like profile with multiple creases and blacked out alloys. But the front-end now gets an influence from the new Land Cruiser LC300 with its slatted grille that flanks a pair of sleek LED headlights. Below are the large faux air dams that get tiny LED fog lamps.
Shifting focus to the rear-end, it gets a funky style of LED tail lamps similar to the outgoing model that’s now connected by an LED strip. So while the side profile and rear-end look similar to the current car, its Land Cruiser-like front-end does give it a whole lot of character.
Step inside the Vellfire and you’ll be welcomed by a redesigned dashboard that has taken the game up completely with its upmarket design and multiple layers. Your eyes will be drawn to the massive touchscreen infotainment system, which thankfully gets physical controls for all the important functions. It also gets a new three-spoke steering wheel and an updated digital driver’s display.
But the main highlight of the Vellfire is its rear seats. Open the electronically sliding doors and you’ll be greeted by two arm chairs that can beat your couch at home when it comes to comfort. It also gets multiple adjustments for that added bit of relaxedness. Both the second and third rows also get sunshades for added privacy and to block excess lighting.
In terms of features, the Vellfire comes loaded with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, three-zone climate control, powered front seats, electronically sliding rear doors, multiple airbags, electronic stability control and a full suite of ADAS features.
Internationally, the Vellfire comes with either a 2.4-litre turbo-petrol or a 2.5-litre strong-hybrid engine options, both which can be had with either two-wheel or four-wheel drive. The former gets an 8-speed automatic, while the hybrid is offered with an e-CVT. In India, we suspect the Vellfire to continue with the strong-hybrid four-wheel-drive powertrain.
Considering that the Vellfire is quite a popular car here, we suspect Toyota will bring the new-gen model soon. And when it comes, you can expect it to command a sizable premium over the current model that is priced at Rs 96.55 lakh. As of now, the Vellfire doesn’t have any rival in the country.
