TVS had recently updated the Jupiter 110 family-oriented scooter and now it comes with a new design, styling, colours and features. But is it enough to dethrone India’s highest selling scooter, the Honda Activa? We try to answer this question through this detailed image comparison.
TVS has made a lot of changes to the Jupiter’s design, and the scooter now has a more premium look and feel. The apron-mounted LED DRL and turn-indicator setup just looks amazing, and TVS has also turned up the premium quotient with small bits like the metallic badging. Overall, it is hard to deny that the new Jupiter doesn't look good.
The Honda Activa, on the other hand, stays true to the same design formula that it has been using for sometime now. But the lack of updates has made the Activa look a bit dated and it doesn’t feel that impressive anymore.
But for what it is – a simple family-scooter – the plain design is more than enough.
The TVS Jupiter has received a major update to its engine. It is now powered by a 113.3cc mild-hybrid engine that produces 8.02PS and 9.2Nm. The engine’s torque output can be temporarily boosted to 9.8Nm with the hybrid-assist.
The Honda Activa on the other hand is powered by a slightly smaller, 109.51cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, producing 7.8PS and 8.9Nm.
Overall, the Jupiter 110 has a lot more to offer when it comes to performance.
Both scooters share the same suspension setup: with a telescopic fork and single-sided shock absorber. However, there are some key differences. The first thing that stands out is the wheels.
The Jupiter 110 gets 12-inch alloys wheels on both ends , whereas the Activa rolls on a 12-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy setup. The brakes on the two are also quite different, with the Jupiter getting a 220mm front disc and a130mm rear drum.
The Activa has a 130mm drum at both ends, with combined braking system as standard.
The TVS Jupiter 110 has a lot more features to offer. The first thing that stands out is the new digital instrument console with TVS SmartXonnect. The console offers call/SMS alerts and turn-by-turn navigation.
The Jupiter also offers a larger, 33-litre boot space. The brand has been able to increase the scooter’s storage space by moving the fuel tank under the floorboard. This setup is similar to what we have seen on the higher capacity TVS Jupiter 125.
The Honda Activa on the other hand offers more tech-laden features. The H-smart variant of the Activa 6G brings keyless ignition and related features such as find-my-scooter, remote lock/unlock and the ability to open the fuel cap remotely with the smart key.
The TVS Jupiter has a lot more to offer. The scooter looks more premium, offers better performance, underpinnings and also has more features on offer. At a starting price of Rs 87,250 (ex-showroom Delhi), the Jupiter 110 is definitely a good deal. If you’re someone who is looking for a more premium experience, better performance and more features then the TVS Jupiter 110 will be a good choice. But the TVS’ service experience is known to have been inconsistent.
The Honda Activa 6G doesn’t have the same level of performance or features. However it is still one of the most reliable family-oriented scooters in the market, with a pretty sorted service experience. The engine is well refined and offers enough performance to deal with all of your family related needs. It is also slightly cheaper than the TVS Jupiter, coming in at Rs 82,684 (ex-showroom Delhi).
So, if a no-nonsense family scooter, which is able to offer Japanese levels of refinement and reliability, is what you are looking for, then the Activa is a good choice.
