Almost after three years of making its global debut as a concept, the production-spec 3-row version of the Renault Duster, has been revealed under Dacia brand (budget oriented brand of the Renault), and it’s called the ‘Bigster’. It shares its exterior and interior design with the Duster, along with the same powertrain options. This model is India-bound and should arrive sometime in 2025. Here’s everything you need to know about it:
The Bigster first made its global debut as a concept in 2021, and now, in 2024, the production version looks almost identical to the concept, but at the same time it closely resembles the Duster as well. The front grille and Y-shaped LED DRLs are directly inspired by the Duster, while the revised bumper design gives the Bigster its own distinctive styling identity.
Along the sides, it features squared wheel arches housing 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that enhance its muscular stance. Like the Duster, the rear door handles are positioned on the C-pillar. Adding to its rugged appearance are the silver-finished roof rails. At the rear, you’ll find the same Y-shaped LED tail lights, an extended roof spoiler, and a chunky bumper accentuated by a silver skid plate.
The Dacia Bigster (extended Renault Duster) gets a utilitarian cabin layout that closely resembles that of the Duster. Inside, you'll find Y-shaped inserts on the AC vents, and the steering wheel is directly sourced from the Duster.
In terms of features, the Bigster comes loaded with amenities like a 10.1-inch infotainment system, a 10.1-inch fully digital driver’s display, a 6-speaker Arkamys 3D sound system, dual-zone AC, wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, and powered driver’s seat. The safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, and a rear parking camera. The international-spec version of the Bigster also features the ADAS suite, which includes adaptive cruise control.
The 7-seater version of the Duster comes with both mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrain options. The choices include a 4-cylinder strong hybrid petrol engine which makes 155 PS/170 Nm, and a 1.2-litre 3 cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid setup, offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. The latter also comes with an optional all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain. It is also being offered with a 1.2-litre 3 cylinder LPG powertrain option.
Renault is yet to confirm which of these powertrains will be offered with the India-spec version of the Duster.
The 7-seater version of the Renault Duster is expected to arrive on our shores by sometime in 2025. In India, the bigger Duster will take on the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and MG Hector Plus.
