We already know that Bajaj is actively working on the world’s first CNG bike which is set to launch next month. But the manufacturer is also working on 5-6 CNG bikes that will be launched under a new CNG family of motorcycles in future.
In a recent interview, CEO Rajiv Bajaj mentioned that if the customer response is good, the manufacturer may even launch a new CNG bike every year. He said “... there are 5 or 6 motorcycles of the same platform under development. What we launch in June will be just the first one or two, and then if the response is good, we will again, make it bigger, make it smaller, make it cheaper, make it more expensive…” This statement also hints that the future Bajaj CNG bike will cater to different segments.
Rajiv Bajaj also spoke about the brand's first CNG bike which is going to launch on June 18, 2024, saying, “We are almost production ready with the first CNG motorcycle in the world that halves the running cost as compared to a petrol bike.” He added that the bikemaker will start manufacturing with a capacity of 20,000 bikes a month. This means Bajaj aims to gauge customer response with the first CNG bike, and so will start the manufacturing on a smaller scale.
The bikemaker has so far been getting mixed reactions on its upcoming CNG bike. Rajiv said that “...it is a new animal so to speak, that we have a very polarised response. On the one hand, there are people who can't wait for this motorcycle because it offers you half the running costs… But some also question how it is possible in terms of the weight, the balance, the safety of a cylinder being somewhere there on the two-wheeler…”

But we shouldn’t forget that the manufacturer already has expertise in manufacturing CNG three-wheelers, which the manufacturer is going to utilise fully. And if there’s one OEM we trust with CNG two-wheelers, it has to be Bajaj, given its 88 percent market share in the CNG 3-wheeler market.
Coming back to Bajaj’s upcoming CNG bike, CEO Rajiv Bajaj first revealed the manufacturer’s plan for India’s first-ever CNG two-wheeler in September 2023. The bike was spotted testing for the first time in November 2023. We then got a closer look at the bike and got to know quite a few details about its seat profile, switchgear, tank design and more.
It’s a somewhat premium-looking motorcycle with a front disc brake, telescopic fork, rear monoshock and a long seat. The bike is expected to offer performance equivalent to that of a 110cc petrol-powered motorcycle. It will also have a small petrol tank which can be used in case the CNG runs out. Here’s what the upcoming Bajaj CNG bike could be called, and here's everything we know so far about the Bajaj CNG bike.
