When it comes to being first for everything in the world of cars, it’s Hyundai that pops up to our mind. The Korean carmaker pushes boundaries when it comes to introducing novel features in a particular segment. In this context for this report, we are going to talk about Hyundai’s first-ever sub-4 metre SUV, the Venue, which went and continues to go guns blazing in its segment by pushing segment boundaries.
Back in 2019 when the Venue debuted in the Indian market, the sub-4 metre SUV was the first-ever car in our shores to get connected car tech. Mind you, not even luxury cars twice, thrice or even four times the price of the Venue offered such a feature back in the day. And now, almost every car that debuts in the Indian market has this feature.
The Venue’s connected car tech allows for immense convenience, allowing owners to view all the vital stats of the vehicle in their smartphone. It also allowed for the utilisation of basic features such as pre-cooling of the vehicle, unlocking and locking the car and a whole lot more. Also, Hyundai’s connected car tech comes useful if you’re exploring by suggesting places to visit if you are visiting a place for the first time.
Then there’s the safety aspect, where you can track the vehicle, use the geo fencing feature which alerts the owner once the car crosses the pre-set boundaries and in case of an emergency or an unfortunate event, be able to contact emergency services. Talk about leading the way!
The Hyundai Venue continues to offer the broadest choice of engine options in its segment. The base engine is the 1.2–litre naturally aspirated petrol, which is for those who want an easy-to-drive and laid back option. For those looking for fun have the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine and if you’re someone who has a heavy usage every month can consider the frugal 1.5-litre diesel engine.
Specifications for all three engine options have been detailed in this table below:

Hyundai has made plenty of tweaks underneath its skin such to ensure the difference is felt on the road. They have given it a stiffer suspension setup and a quicker steering rack to ensure handling is tight. Aural pleasure is also important for any sporty car and Hyundai has ticked that box by giving a throatier exhaust note.
Does all the changes reflect on the road, though? Ameya Dandekar, our bossman, has put the same to test in our scientific Ride and Handling tests with the standard car and you can watch the video here:
Hyundai was one of the first carmakers in India to offer six airbags as standard on all of its cars. Great! The Venue, on the other hand, took the safety aspect in its segment one step further by getting Level-1 Advanced Driver’s Assistance Systems (ADAS). Its suite consists of features such as forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, collision avoidance assist, lane departure warning and auto high beam assist. All of this ensures a more safer and stress free drive on the highways.
It’s not just features and variants where the Venue pushes boundaries. But it has a specific design element that has become super popular in the world of cars. That’s the split headlamp setup. The Venue was the first in its segment to get this particular design trait in its segment and boy, it has become very popular in new age cars.
These are the 5 areas where the Hyundai Venue has really pushed segment boundaries and has made for a formidable force in its segment. Prices for the Hyundai Venue range from Rs 7.94 lakh to Rs 13.53 lakh (ex-showroom).
