90 Percent Customers Choose The Mahindra Scorpio In Its Diesel Powertrain Over The Petrol Version

Sales of the Scorpio N diesel (which also includes Scorpio Classic numbers) grew by 45 percent while petrol variants grew by a staggering 230 percent over last year

The Mahindra Scorpio and Scorpio N have been one of the best-selling SUV since it was  introduced in the Indian market. The Scorpio N is offered in both 4x4 and 4x2 configurations and with petrol and diesel powertrains with both manual and automatic transmissions, while the Scorpio Classic is available in just the diesel manual rear-wheel drive option.

Notably, the sales figures mentioned for the diesel variants here are combined for the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N. The diesel models constitute 90 percent of the overall sales. It is evident from the table above that sales have grown substantially from last year. The sales figures denote that the Scorpio diesel variants sales surged by 45 percent and petrol variants by a whopping 230 percent over last year.

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is powered by the 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 132 PS and 300 Nm mated to a 6-speed manual.

The Scorpio N is offered with the same 2.2-litre diesel engine as the Classic in the lower models (132 PS and 300 Nm). In the higher variants, this engine delivers 175 PS and either 370 Nm or 400 Nm depending on the transmission. The Scorpio N also gets a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine (200 PS and up to 380 Nm). All engines come with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, and a 6-speed automatic is available for the more powerful diesel and turbo-petrol engines. The Scorpio N is offered with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive (diesel only). 

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is priced from Rs 13.61 lakh to Rs 17.41 lakh (ex-showroom) while the Scorpio N is priced from Rs 13.85 lakh to Rs 24.54 lakh (ex-showroom). Both these SUVs rival the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and Mahindra XUV700.
