Hyundai just recently launched the facelifted i20 in India. Apart from the usual changes that a mid-life facelift recipe brings, Hyundai lowered the starting prices of the premium hatchback, thanks to a new entry-level Era trim. But today, we take a detailed look at the one-above-base Magna trim of the facelifted i20 in 6 images:
Sitting on the lower end of the spectrum, the i20 Magna doesn’t get any LEDs. Halogen headlamps are used at the front and rear and there’s no LED DRLs here either. Rest of the styling is shared with the other variants, with a common parametric grille design and silver finish for the front lip.
You get body-coloured door handles and ORVMs in profile, which are contrasted by the 15-inch wheels with black covers. As mentioned earlier, the rear doesn’t get the Z-shaped LEDs and rely on incandescent bulbs. Even the taillights are connected by a slim bar and doesn’t feature the chrome garnish of the higher trims. Just like at the front, the rear skid plates get a silver finish.
The cabin of the Hyundai i20 Magna gets the new black/grey colour scheme. While the layout is the same as the higher trims, it does get three manual knobs for HVAC controls along with buttons and dial on either side for the smaller 8-inch infotainment system. It gets fabric seat upholstery and silver inserts on the inside door handles.
As for the features, the list includes a semi-digital MID display, an 8-inch infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, four speakers with tweeters, type-C charger (front), steering-mounted controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear AC vents and a tilt and telescopic steering wheel. The top-spec model gets a 10.25-inch infotainment system, 7-speaker Bose sound system, connected car technology, a voice-enabled electric sunroof and more.
The i20 already comes with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-start assist, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, three-point seatbelts, and ISOFIX mounts as standard fitments, while the Magna trim also gets a tyre pressure monitoring system, and automatic headlamps with escort function.
Hyundai offers the i20 with a sole 1.2-litre NA petrol engine. It can be had with either a 5-speed MT or a CVT, but the Magna trim only gets the manual option. Output is rated at 83PS and 114.7Nm. The CVT offers a better output of 88PS.
The Magna trim of the 2023 Hyundai i20 costs Rs 7.69 lakh (ex-showroom). It isn’t the most feature loaded trim, obviously, but packs a decent enough list of equipment for its price point. The Hyundai i20 fights off competition from the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Tata Altroz.
