Kia Sonet facelift achieves 1 lakh sales mark
Available in 11 variants and 11 colour options
Comes in two petrol and a diesel engine choices
Offers ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and 6 airbags
Priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 15.77 lakh
Kia has just announced that the Sonet facelift has achieved a 1 lakh sales milestone within 11 months of its launch. The refreshed sub-compact SUV was introduced in the market in January this year. The mid-cycle facelift brought several features to the Sonet, such as ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and an all-digital driver’s display. The 6-speed manual with diesel engine combination was also re-introduced. Currently, it comes in 11 variants, including the recently launched Gravity Edition and is priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 15.77 lakh (ex-showroom).
According to Kia, petrol powertrains have been popular amongst the Sonet facelift buyers as they accounted for 76 percent of the overall sales, while diesel contributed to the remaining 24 percent of sales. When it comes to transmission-wise sales, automatic and iMT transmissions constituted 34 percent of the total sales. This means the preferred gearbox choice for Sonet customers has been the manual unit. On the other hand, the variants that offer sunroof accounted for 79 percent of the overall sales.
The Sonet facelift is available in eight single-tone colour options alongside two dual-tone shades and a single matte paint option. Whereas, the interior can be had in 5 different themes depending on the variant.
In terms of features, the Sonet facelift offers a 10.25-inch all-digital instrument cluster, 4-way powered driver’s seat, 7-speaker Bose sound system, a single-pane sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, and 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The safety kit includes a 360-degree camera, 6 airbags (standard), electronic stability control, hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Powering the Sonet facelift is a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83 PS and 115 Nm. Then, there is a 1-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol unit with 120 PS and 172 Nm and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel motor that makes 116 PS and 250 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT, 7-speed DCT automatic, and 6-speed automatic.
The Sonet competes against the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Skoda Kylaq, and Kia Syros. It also takes on the sub-four metre crossovers, such as the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Toyota Taisor.
The Kia Sonet facelift has received a good response from customers as it is a value-for-money proposition and offers a wide variety of features and safety equipment. Not to mention the 3 different engine options and 5 distinct transmission choices. Hence it will not be an exaggeration to say that the 1 lakh unit sales is a testament to that.
