The all-electric BMW i4 luxury sedan sees an Indian debut at the ongoing India Art Fair in New Delhi. The battery-powered luxury sedan is the third electric vehicle in India from the BMW Group after the iX luxury SUV and Mini Cooper SE sedan. Prices will be announced on May 26.
The i4 is based on the same CLAR platform that underpins the standard 4 Series. But naturally, the ICE powertrain has been replaced by an electric motor and battery pack. Initially, the sedan is expected to come in the standard eDrive40 guise, meaning it’d get a rear-wheel drive motor. A more powerful M50 trim with dual motors is on offer as well.
Technical specifications of both the variants can be found here:

Since the i4 is an electrified 4 Series, they look largely similar save for the EV-specific highlights. The absurdly large and controversial grille has been closed off for better aero. Even the alloy wheels have been designed in a way to help the sedan slice through air better. And last, but not least, it gets bespoke bumper designs and plenty of blue highlights.

Inside, the battery-powered sedan features a free-standing touchscreen infotainment and digital driver’s display, whose orientation looks similar to the E-Class. These screens run on BMW’s latest i-Drive 8 user interface and feature a raft of connected features and personalisation options. You can read more about the i-Drive 8 here.
The all-electric BMW i4 will go on sale on May 26 at an expected price of Rs 80 lakh. It doesn’t have any direct rivals at the moment and will lock horns with similarly priced cars like the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
