The bike will compete with the Yamaha R3 and KTM RC390

Aprilia had teased their upcoming supersport, the Aprilia RS457, on social media with the caption “…RS 457 will make a grand stop, with an announcement worthy of India Bike Week’s 10th anniversary.” This indicates the brand is planning on launching the bike on December 8, at the India Bike Week (IBW) 2023 event. The bike will be manufactured at Aprilia’s Baramati plant, making it the first Aprilia motorcycle to be made in India.

The Aprilia RS457 is a supersport offering from the Italian manufacturer, built at the company’s Baramati plant in Maharashtra. It is powered by a 457cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that produces 46.7PS at 9400rpm and 43.5Nm at 6700rpm. For reference, the Yamaha R3 makes 42PS and 29.5Nm whereas the Kawasaki Ninja 400 produces 45PS and 37Nm.

Underpinnings include a dual beam aluminium frame suspended on a 41mm inverted fork with 120mm wheel travel and a monoshock with 130mm wheel travel, both preload-adjustable. The bike rolls on 110-section (front) and 150-section (rear) TVS Eurogrip Protorq Extreme tyres with 17-inch alloy wheels.

Braking duties are handled by a 320mm floating front disc with 4-piston radial callipers, and a 220mm rear disc with 2-piston sliding callipers. The bike gets dual-channel ABS as standard. It sports a seat height of 800mm, a fuel tank capacity of 13 litres, and the kerb weight stands at 175kg.

In terms of features, the RS 457 gets ride-by-wire, 3 riding modes, and 3 levels of traction control. The instrument cluster is a 5-inch TFT unit with bluetooth connectivity as an optional add-on.

Though it will be manufactured here, its impressive specs and features list means it will still be a premium offering from the Italian bikemaker. With that in mind, the Aprilia RS 457 is expected to be launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs 4.25 lakh. For perspective, the bike starts from USD 6799 (around Rs 5.66 lakh) in the US market. The RS 457 will compete with other 300-400cc offerings in the market like the Kawasaki Ninja 400, KTM RC390 and the upcoming Yamaha R3.
