The covers came off the Aston Martin DB12, Aston’s latest DB model, back in May 2023. And yet, the DB12 never fails to leave you in a state of absolute awe. That’s even before you are welcomed by its all-new cabin design. And then there’s the heart of the supertourer (yes, that’s what Aston calls it): four cylinders short than its predecessor, despite which it packs quite the wallop!
All of this is coming to India tomorrow when the Aston Martin DB12 will be launched, replacing the DB11 before it. Here are 3 facts about it:
Aston Martin says that the DB12 is 80 percent new, compared to the DB11. The change in styling is unmistakable at the front, though not so much at the rear. It's got a wider track front and rear which, along with Aston’s huge signature grille, give it a meaner stance. The headlights are an amalgam of the unit from the DBS and the DB11, but the attention to detail within it, especially with the three-piece DRL, is commendable.
The smooth profile is very Aston Martin-like and it sits on forged 21-inch alloys as standard. The chunky rear end, body contours, and even the taillights are very similar to the DB11.
You know how a few Aston Martin of the near past have been borrowing their infotainment systems from previous-gen Mercedes cars, despite people taking the mickey out for it? The British marque has finally addressed that issue and how! The cabin of the DB12 takes huge leaps ahead, not just in the way it looks and is set up, but also because of the technology that has been implemented in it.
For the first time, the 10.25-inch infotainment system has been developed entirely in-house by the carmaker. That is complimented by a fully digital driver’s display behind the chic 3-spoke steering wheel and its paddle shifters. The central console is rather chunky and thankfully houses physical knobs and buttons for various functions, including the engine start/stop button. In another first for the brand, the DB12 boasts connected car technology which can be accessed with Aston’s own companion app.
That’s right. Aston has chucked the V12 engine in favour of a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 sourced from Mercedes-AMG. It’s good enough for 680PS and 800Nm – a full 41PS and 100Nm more than what the DB11’s V12 used to make, with a 0-96kmph sprint time of 3.5 seconds. With a top speed of 325kmph, it is no slouch in straight speeds but that’s not what the DB12 is ALL about.

It boasts a bunch of tweaked mechanicals, a new suspension system that uses adaptive dampers, an electronic rear differential, and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tyres that promise a very engaging driving experience, be it on the track or the motorway.
It is very likely that the Aston Martin DB12 will carry an even steeper price tag than the outgoing DB11, which was sold at Rs 4.20 crore (ex-showroom). Once on the streets, the super tourer will take the fight to the Ferrari Roma and Mclaren GT.
