To begin with, the Ather 450X Gen 3 comes with optional Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). This is fitted on the inside of the wheel for better accuracy and safety. The readouts of the real time pressures are displayed on the instrument cluster, and it can be viewed on the app as well. The device costs Rs 4,999 (including GST), and the installation is free. It also comes with a one-year warranty. It is powered by a non-replaceable internal battery that’s claimed to have an expected lifespan of 3-5 years. That means, you’ll have to buy a new one if its battery runs out, and that’s a pretty expensive proposition in our opinion.
For better pillion passenger comfort, the e-scooter gets an optional cast aluminium foldable side-mounted footrest. Its design goes well with the looks of the scooter and its integration is neat as well. Pricing will be revealed when it is launched in a few months’ time, says Ather.
The Gen 3 450X comes with redesigned rear-view mirrors that offer better peripheral vision, and they are also lighter by 20 per cent. These new mirrors can be retrofitted onto the previous-generation scooter and costs Rs 651 per piece.
The e-scooter also gets stickier MRF Nylogrip Zapper N tyres with a fatter rear unit which provides better cornering confidence, greater lean angles and a shorter stopping distance. While technically, these tyres can be retrofitted onto the older generation scooter, Ather doesn’t recommend it as it involves quite a few tinkering with the suspension and rim. It doesn’t offer them as an accessory either.
