Quick News Highlights:

- The Zenith platform is for the EV maker’s upcoming electric bikes

- The EL platform is for Ather’s upcoming electric scooters

Ather Energy is developing two new platforms for new electric scooters and its first electric motorcycle offerings. According to a report published online, the EV maker is developing a new platform for electric bikes named “Zenith” and another new platform for upcoming scooters named “EL”.

Ather Energy filed for its initial public offering (IPO) recently and in its DRHP (Draft Red Herring Prospectus) filed with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the EV maker revealed that the new Zenith platform has been designed to produce electric bikes rivaling the 125cc-300cc petrol-powered counterparts. We expect the first electric bike from Ather Energy to be a mass market product but with a sporty nature to rival the likes of the TVS Raider 125 and Hero Xtreme 125R. Being an Ather, we expect it to have smooth performance, great handling characteristics, and packed with usable features like a digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation, driving modes, reverse mode and more.

Electric bikes haven’t been able to achieve good market penetration yet and the offerings from the EV makers have also been sparse compared to the number of electric scooters available in the market. Motorcycles account for about 63% of the two-wheeler market and according to Ather Energy, EV penetration in the motorcycle space could hit 10% by the end of this decade.

Regarding the EL platform for its upcoming scooters, Ather Energy has said that it will be a more versatile platform with a new chassis, powertrain and electronics with battery elements and the Atherstack of the 450 platform. The EV maker also said that the EL platform will allow it to develop a diverse range of scooters at reduced costs while catering to various domestic and international market needs. The upcoming bikes and scooters based on the new platforms will be manufactured at the EV maker’s new facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra and production will begin in a phased manner from May 2026.
