As Ather Energy celebrates two years of the Ather 450, it will be offering exchange schemes for customers looking to trade in their petrol-powered two-wheelers for an Ather electric scooter. Ather started its electric journey with the 450 electric scooters and since then it has been constantly updating them via its OTA platforms. Its current portfolio consists of the more powerful and capable 450X and 450 Plus scooters. Ather will formally announce the details of the exchange offer later this month.

While the Ather scooters offer the best in technology and performance, they are quite expensive. For instance, the Ather 450X’s Bengaluru price including GST and FAME II subsidies but excluding state subsidy, road tax and registration is Rs 1.59 lakh. This makes it significantly more expensive than other premium electric two-wheelers such as the Bajaj Chetak, Revolt RV 400 and TVS iQube. With the petrol-powered BS6 scooters being significantly expensive, the price difference between the Ather 450X and a premium scooter like the Vespa has reduced considerably. Now with the offer to exchange your older ICE scooter for a discount on the new Ather 450, it will become even easier to upgrade from ICE to electric.

The exchange offer could also be applicable on Ather’s battery subscription plan, under which you currently pay Rs 99,000 for the scooter and a monthly charge starting Rs 1,699 for the battery. It includes a lifetime battery warranty wherein the battery is replaced free of cost every time its charge capacity drops below 80 per cent. While the battery subscription could remain unaffected, Ather could offer a discount on the scooter's MRP under the upcoming exchange scheme.

Besides the used two-wheeler exchange offer, Ather is also working on a unique ‘Peer To Peer’ scooter sharing platform for which it has partnered with Bounce dockless shared mobility. Under this plan, Ather owners will be able to rent out their scooters to other users. It will also allow those registered on the Bounce app to rent an Ather scooter near them for a couple of hours or days.
