The most affordable Ather e-scooter, the 450S, gets a 2.9kWh capacity battery with an IDC (Indian Driving Conditions) claimed range of 115km. The motor has a peak output of 5.4kW and 22Nm with claimed acceleration from 0-40kmph achieved in 3.9 seconds and a claimed top speed of 90kmph. Features-wise, the 450S gets an LCD console instead of the touchscreen TFT display on the 450X and turn-by-turn navigation from MapMyIndia using the Ather App. It gets a new switchgear to navigate the menus in the LCD console, a dedicated switch for reverse mode and three riding modes: Smart Eco, Ride and Sport. The new switchgear and the dedicated reverse mode switch are also available on the two variants of the 450X as well.
The 450S comes with a coasting regen feature, which slows down the scooter at cruising speeds and uses the energy to recharge the battery. It has also been designed in a way that the regen is at a lower setting at slow speeds and at a higher setting at high speeds. The 450S is compatible with Ather Grid’s fast chargers that can charge the scooter at speeds of up to 1.5km/min.
The scooter also gets a new FallSafe feature, that switches off the motor and flashes the indicators if the scooter falls down. It also gets ‘Emergency Stop Signal’, which makes the brake lights blink whenever the rider brakes suddenly at speeds of more than 50kmph.
The 450X, on the other hand, is now available with two battery pack options: 2.9kWh and 3.7kWh. Both variants get the same 7-inch TFT touchscreen display we have seen before with navigation through Google Maps. It gets an additional Warp riding mode just like the standard variant. The 2.9kWh variant of the 450X gets an IDC claimed range of 111km while the 3.7kWh variant gets an IDC claimed range of 150km.
Deliveries for the 450X’s 2.9kWh variant will start from the 3rd week of August 2023, the 450S a week after that and that of the 450X’s updated 3.7kWh variant will start in October. The Pro pack, which unlocks a host of connectivity and riding assist features, will set you back an additional Rs 14,000 for the 450S, Rs 16,000 for the 2.9kWh variant of the 450X and Rs 23,000 for the 3.7kWh variant respectively.
The Ather 450S’ rivals are the Ola S1 Air, TVS iQube S, Bajaj Chetak and Vida V1 Pro. The 450X’s rivals are the Ola S1 Pro, upcoming TVS iQube ST and Simple One.
