A couple of homologation documents have surfaced online, suggesting that the updated Bajaj Chetak will be launched soon.
From the homologation documents, it is apparent that updated versions of the Urbane and Premium variants of the Chetak are on the way. The upcoming Urbane variant comes equipped with a 2.88kWh capacity battery pack (of which 2.48kWh will be usable), peak power output of 4.28kW and a claimed range of 113km. It will have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 281kg.
The Premium variant, on the other hand, gets a 3.2kWh capacity battery (of which 2.78kWh is usable), peak power output of 4.25kW and a claimed range of 126km. While the dimensions are similar to the Urbane variant, it is heavier by 3kg.
For reference, currently, both the Urbane and Premium variants get a 2.9kWh capacity battery. The Urbane variant gets an IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) claimed range of 113km while the Premium variant gets an IDC claimed range of 108km.
Interestingly, the upcoming Urbane and Premium variants are powered by NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) batteries whereas the existing Chetak uses an NCA (Nickel Cobalt Aluminium) battery pack. The former is known to offer longer range whereas the latter is known to have a longer lifespan.
Both electric scooters currently cost Rs 1,15,000 (ex-showroom including FAME 2 subsidy). Accordingly, the upcoming updated Premium variant will likely come with a premium of Rs 10,000 over the current price tag while the Urban variant’s price is likely to remain same as it gets the same range as the current version. Expect the updated versions to be launched either this month or in early january 2024.
