Bajaj’s electric efforts will receive a much-needed boost in 2022 as the company has announced that it is setting up a larger manufacturing facility in Akurdi. This is the same site where Bajaj used to make the original Chetak scooter, and it will now produce the new Chetak electric scooter, the first to be rolled out of this facility by June, as well as the Husqvarna Vektorr e-scooter.
The Vektorr has already been spotted a couple of times on test. It is usually surrounded by a fleet of Chetaks, making it hard to unearth anything different about the product from its concept. However, in a recent video shot by our friend OggyF, the Vektorr was quite up ahead, leaving the Chetaks in its trail. Given the fact the Vektorr is meant primarily for EU and other global markets, more performance and better battery life (compared to the Chetak) are going to be critical aspects to have.

Will it ever be sold in India? Given the dwindling sales of the Husky 250s, we doubt it. One of the possibilities of the brand reinventing itself as an electric-only manufacturer for India is possible. That said, we expect it to be a premium and stylish offering, and not to forget a pricey one too.
Lastly, KTM’s Stefan Pierer had shown interest in developing an electric scooter for the Austrian marque using the Chetak platform. Hence, we can expect a production-ready version of the KTM e-Speed scooter to roll out from this new Akurdi plant sometime in the future.
