The Kylaq is a sub-four metre SUV, measuring 3,995 mm in length, 1,783 mm in width, and 1,619 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,566 mm. The boot capacity stands at 446 litres.
Design-wise, the Kylaq sports a familiar grille, split LED headlamps, body cladding, chunky skid plates in silver on the front and rear bumper, and C-shaped taillamps. The overall design is reminiscent of the Kushaq. However, it stands out with a different front-end design, new 17-inch alloy wheels, and vivid colour options, giving it a more upmarket appearance. The Kylaq comes in 7 colour options: Olive Gold, Lava Blue, Tornado Red, Deep Black, Carbon Steel, Brilliant Silver, and Candy White.
On the inside, the Kylaq features a cabin layout similar to that of the Kushaq and Slavia but with a unique dual-tone theme accented by chrome and silver inserts. Plus, the 2-spoke steering wheel and climate control panel are borrowed from its elder siblings. Also on offer is leatherette upholstery.
Skoda has equipped the Kylaq with a host of features, such as an 8-inch driver’s display, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 6-way powered and ventilated front seats, USB Type-C ports, wireless phone charger, cooled glovebox, a sunroof, auto-dimming IRVM, ambient lighting, and connected car tech.
When it comes to safety, it gets 6 airbags (as standard), electronic stability programme (ESP), hill hold control, multi-collision braking, brake disc wiping, ABS, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Powering the Skoda Kylaq is the same 1-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with 115 PS and 178 Nm as the Kushaq and Slavia as well as the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus. This motor is coupled to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The Kylaq enters the highly competitive sub-compact SUV segment, where it faces off against the likes of the Tata Nexon (Rs 8 lakh to 15.50 lakh), Kia Sonet (Rs 8 to 15.77 lakh), Hyundai Venue (Rs 7.94 to 13.53 lakh), Mahindra XUV 3XO (Rs 7.79 to 15.49 lakh), and Maruti Suzuki Brezza (Rs 8.34 to 14.14 lakh).
All are ex-showroom prices.
