Citroen C3 To Get Automatic Transmission In India Later

• The C3 will be offered with 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmissions in India. 

• It’ll have 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) and turbo petrol powertrains. 

• Pre-bookings will begin on July 1, and the C3’s prices will be announced on July 20. 

In India, the Citroen C3 will not get an automatic option at launch – a convenience that’s already offered by its rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Tata Tiago. 

When Will The Citroen C3 Automatic Come To India? 

At launch, the India-spec Citroen C3 will get two gearbox options – a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed manual depending on the engine choice. The latter will be exclusively available with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, and in the future, an automatic version would be offered with this engine as well. 

For now, Citroen India hasn’t announced if or when it plans to offer the C3 with an auto ‘box but it is part of the life cycle changes confirms the carmaker. The carmaker has also confirmed that the C3 will not get a dual-clutch automatic (DCT) gearbox. But given the increasing preference of automatics in India, a torque converter or CVT or even an AMT option would be welcome. 

We could see the 6-speed torque converter transmission from the  Euro-spec C3 (offered with the same engine) be offered on the C3 here, too. 

Citroen C3 Automatic Expected Price 

We’ll know the Citroen C3’s prices on July 20, but we expected a ballpark figure of Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh. Adding an automatic option, especially a torque converter or CVT, will increase the price. Nevertheless, an automatic transmsisison Citroen C3 should still be well under Rs 10 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
