It's always a good day when prices of CNG, or any fuel for that matter, are slashed. However, those don’t come along as often as their counterparts that make them dearer. But today is one of those rare good days as CNG prices across the nation have been brought down; and that too, by a significant margin. Here are the new CNG prices in the majority of the Indian cities:
City |
Old Price (per kg) |
New Price (per kg) |
Delhi |
Rs 79.56 |
Rs 73.59 |
Gurgaon |
Rs 87.89 |
Rs 82.62 |
Mumbai |
Rs 87 |
Rs 79 |
Pune |
Rs 94 |
Rs 87 |
Bangalore |
Rs 87.50 |
Rs 82.50 |
Chennai |
- |
Rs 83 |
Ahmedabad |
- |
Rs 73.29 |
Now these city-wise CNG prices depend on the player who’s more dominant in that particular area, hence the decrease in prices aren’t uniform. Southern states still remain to be costlier in comparison to northern states; however, Mumbai seems to have gained the most of the price decrement where MGL (Mahanagar Gas Limited) has reduced the prices by Rs 8 per kg. IGL (Indraprastha Gas Ltd) cut its prices by up to Rs 6 per kg in the NCR region.

The reason for this relief in CNG prices are down to the new gas pricing norms passed by the union cabinet, which lay out new guidelines that aim to protect both the consumers and the producers, offering a much needed balance.
These new price relaxations come as a huge solace for the middle class people, as on one hand the running costs of petrol as well diesel vehicles are touching the stratosphere, while on the other, the new electric and hybrid tech that is coming in is financially out of reach for the majority, thanks to the high cost of initial procurement. CNG certainly offers the sweet spot between the two at the moment and these revised prices will surely be appreciated unanimously.
