Citroen has just launched its SUV-coupe, the Basalt in India, at a rather aggressive starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh. While the full price list isn’t out just yet, you can already book and even check out the SUV-coupe for yourself at showrooms. In this story, we take a detailed look at the base-spec of the Citroen Basalt in 7 images.
The base variant of the Basalt doesn’t hide away from the fact that it is the entry level variant of the lineup. You don’t get the LED headlights as halogen bulbs have been used here. It also misses out on DRLs fog lamps, but in terms of styling cues, it does get some horizontal chrome elements, along with the vertical red accents on the bumper.
The side profile is plain jane too, with body coloured wheel arches, 16-inch steel wheels without covers, and black door handles. The ORVMs are also black and miss out on the turn indicator, which has been placed on the fender in this trim. Just like the front, the little red insert makes its way here as well on the C-pillar.
However, the rear isn’t too different from the higher trims. The sloping roofline merges into the rear neatly but a shark fin antenna is missing here. It also looks less beefy, courtesy of the omission of silver skid plate found in the higher trims. There’s no LED tail lights here and neither in the higher trims of the Basalt.

In terms of colour options, the base You trim of the Basalt offers two similar choices: Polar White and Steel Grey. You can check out the colour options of the Basalt in this story.
The Basalt’s You trim’s cabin continues the bare bone theme with its colour scheme and features. You don’t get the lighter shade found in the higher trims, instead a combination of black and grey upholstery with a teal blue trim insert on the dashboard.
The chrome inserts all around the cabin have been given a delete. Both the front and rear passengers get three fixed rear headrests, but no central armrest.
By looking at the empty infotainment binnacle, you should be able to tell that it isn’t laden with features either. There’s no touchscreen system, no steering mounted controls and the driver’s display is a semi-digital unit here. You do get manual AC, a 12V socket for charging, and front power windows. As for safety features, the Basalt You comes standard with six airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors.
While the Basalt can be had with a 110PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine in the higher trims, the Base You trim is only available with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 5-speed manual transmission only.
It has an output of 82 PS and 115 Nm and delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 18 kmpl.
The You trim of the Basalt is priced at Rs 7.99 lakh (introductory ex-showroom, pan-India). While a full price list isn’t out yet, Citroen’s configurator did leak the top-spec trim’s prices, which was listed at Rs 13.57 lakh.
A full price list should be out in the coming days. As for rivals, the Basalt rivals the upcoming Tata Curvv and other compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, and Honda Elevate.
