Concept cars getting a performance upgrade package? When did that become a thing? The answer to that probably lies with Dodge, when it decided to take the electrification route making it the first of its kind.
But when the curtains were first taken off the Charger Daytona concept, little was known about the technical specifications for the platform. However, Dodge has bestowed six out of nine possible powertrain options for its electric concept showcased at the SEMA auto show in Las Vegas, which previews its electric muscle car due in 2024.
Design
The overall recipe for the design that harks back to the classic Charger is retained from the initial concept. But the design is constantly under the works and the only changes or upgrades to the concept’s design showcased at SEMA include the new Stryker Red hue and the 18-inch lightweight carbon-fibre wheels wrapped in drag-racing compound tyres. The new exterior shade commemorates the Stage 2 Banshee performance upgrade.
The retro-inspired look continues on the inside, but you now get a ‘direct connecting, stage 2’ badging; the significance of which will be explained later in the article.

Now this might get a bit flummoxing but we’ll try to make it as simple as possible. The six powertrain outputs revealed are for the 400-volt system, which gets two base output levels of 462PS and 598 PS, both further getting two levels of Dodge Direct Connection performance upgrades. Hence the ‘stage’ badging inside the cabin. Now that’s just for the 400-volt system.

Output figures for the 800V Banshee powertrain package will be announced later, and yes, it will also come packing Direct Connection performance upgrade levels. Considering that the 400V electric system in its utmost powerful iteration touches 700PS, we reckon that the Banshee powertrain could see figures north of 1000PS at its highest level.

According to Dodge, the models with the performance upgrade feature a ‘crystal’ key that goes into the dash to access the performance boost. Wonder where it got the idea from?!
An EV exhaust note?
Dodge is taking the EV exhaust note business very seriously. Yeah, that’s a thing, and given its pedigree of outrageously ear-numbing gasoline models, it just might nail it too. To do so, Dodge is inviting people to listen, research and offer opinions on the exhaust note. The feedback attained will then be used to fine-tune the note to its best melody possible and to maybe just echo the cadence of the V8.
With a new era of electric muscle cars with exhaust notes just on the horizon, we can’t wait for the production-ready models to get on the road and light up the streets.
