(Update: Honda has launched the H-Smart variant of the Activa 6G. All details in our launch story.)
We have, in our hands, RTO documents confirming the arrival of the Honda Activa Smart, days after the company sent a ‘Block Your Date’ invite for an event scheduled for January 23. We had deciphered that the event is for the introduction of a safety tech, and now we have more details.
Interestingly, as per the document, the scooter’s power output has gone up from 7.79PS to 7.84PS, despite using the same 109.51cc engine. Furthermore, the upcoming Activa Smart’s gross vehicle weight (kerb weight + permissible weight) is 1kg less than Standard and DLX trims. We are unsure how Honda could have achieved this despite the added tech.
Honda had filed a trademark for ‘H-Smart’ which is an anti-theft system for two-wheelers. We reckon this could be something similar to the Honda Ignition Security System (HISS) equipped on CBR650R, CB650R, CRF1100L Africa Twin and the marque’s other premium offerings.
The Honda Activa Smart could be the first of many products from the Japanese company to sport the safety tech. Eventually, products like Activa 125 and even BigWing India products like the H’ness CB350 and the CB300F could get a ‘Smart’ variant. The new tech could demand up to Rs 3,000 over and above the pricing of the standard trims.
