Jeep will soon be launching the updated Meridian SUV, and pre-bookings are already open for the same. This will be the first major update given to the Meridian since its launch in India, but it isn’t a facelift. The update will enhance the safety quotient of the Meridian, introduce new variants with a new seating layout and also bring subtle changes to the cabin, including new features. Here’s everything that we can expect from the updated Meridian:
The American carmaker will be offering the revised version with two new entry-level variants, which will be called the Longitude and Longitude O (both FWD only). Positioned above these two variants will be the Limited O and Overland variants. With new entry-level variants, Jeep will try to lower down the pricing of the Meridian which is currently priced from Rs 31.23 lakh to Rs 39.83 lakh (ex-showroom).
Jeep will be offering the SUV with a 5-seater layout which will be available with the base-spec Longitude variant only. What’s good is that, in the 5-seater form, you will get a larger and more usable boot space. This variant will be available with a 6-speed MT only, and will be driven via the front-wheels.Rest of the variants will continue with the existing 7-seater configuration.
The updated Meridian will be available with multiple colour themes for the interior based on the variant you opt for. The lower-spec Longitude and Longitude O variants will come with a grey coloured scheme. With the Limited O, you get a new beige theme, while the top-spec avatar comes with a new green-coloured theme.
The Meridian was always a fairly well-equipped car, but missed out on ADAS features that are offered with some of its rival SUVs. However, it is confirmed that ADAS features will make it to the updated iteration. The autonomous kit should include features like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist.
Other key features on board include a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, powered and ventilated seats, and powered tailgate.
In the safety department, you get 6 airbags as standard, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree camera with parking sensors, hill start assist, and ISOFIX child anchorages.
The updated Meridian will be offered with the same 2-litre diesel engine which makes 170 PS and 350 Nm. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic transmission. You get both front-wheel and all-wheel drivetrains, the latter available only with the 9-speed automatic transmission.
The revised Meridian will compete with full-size SUVs like the Nissan X-Trail, Toyota Fortuner, VW Tiguan, and Skoda Kodiaq.
