It’ll be the first ever SUV from the prancing horse

  • SF90 Stradale-inspired bits include a split headlight setup and a low-slung nose.

  • Other design highlights include body cladding, quad tail lamps, and 296 GTB-inspired quad exhausts and diffuser.

  • Likely to be powered by the 296GTB’s 830PS 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 hybrid engine, with a V12 motor probably showing up later.

  • Expected rivals include the Lamborghini Urus, Audi RSQ8, Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, and the Aston Martin DBX.

The folks at Maranello have been working on their first ever SUV, the Purosangue, for quite a long time, but it's only been spotted in heavy disguise so far. Now, images of the SUV on a factory floor have surfaced, revealing the SUV’s design in all its glory. And we can say that it seems to be a behemoth version of the SF90 Stradale.

The SF90 inspiration lies at the front, with a pretty low-slung nose and split headlights that connect to the centre with a body line. Interestingly, the front grille is placed quite low, flanked by aggressive air dams. Of course, there’s also body cladding spotted on the front wheel arches, which has been a traditional styling quotient in modern SUVs.

The rear takes inspiration from the 296 GTB with the quad exhaust setup and a chunky diffuser. The quad tail lamps will meet together via a connected illuminated horizontal bar. Sure the wheels seem conventional Ferrari, but we could get some swanky options from the carmaker when it goes on sale.

The biggest question still remains unanswered: What will power this super-SUV? Reports suggest it might get the 296 GTB’s  830PS 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 hybrid mill. While V12s seem to be a thing of the past for a lot of carmakers, the folks at Maranello could very well plonk in a 6.5-litre V12 motor in the Purosangue in the future.

Considering how production-ready the Ferrari Purosangue looks, reports suggest Ferrari may begin production towards the end of 2022 with a launch in 2023. Ferrari’s first SUV is set to have some intense competition from the likes of the Lamborghini Urus, Audi RSQ8, Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, and the Aston Martin DBX
