Ferrari hopes to replicate Lamborghini’s success with the Purosangue SUV
  • The SUV will be powered by a naturally aspirated V12.

  • The first SUV in Ferrari’s stable is set to make its debut on September 13.

  • Its direct rivals will include Lamborghini Urus, Audi RS Q8, Range Rover Sport, Aston Martin DBX and Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

We’ve all seen the test mules and leaked images and now, we’ve heard its glorious V12 courtesy of a teaser from Ferrari that confirms the debut of its first sports SUV, called the Purosangue, on September 13. The latest teaser was taciturn apart from the sound of the engine, as it only revealed the sleek front headlamps as the overall silhouette was completely darkened.

A V12 winning formula?

With people longing for everything between comfort and performance packed in a single offering, performance SUVs seem to be the solution. And numbers back that statement, with the Urus leading the pack for Lamborghini, claiming 59.7 percent of the marque’s total sales in 2021. Ferrari has taken notice and is looking to replicate Lamborghini’s success as it gears up to foray into the performance SUV space with its first-ever SUV.

Things we know and things we don’t

Going by the spy shots and an earlier teaser, the design will be a blend between a crossover and SUV. Its headlights are reminiscent of the SF90 Stradale as they follow the split design connected by the bonnet line, along with a massive grille sporting the Prancing Horse emblem right in the middle.

Ferrari is going in guns blazing with its first-ever SUV. While official details are scarce, we know that Ferrari will equip the SUV with a naturally aspirated V12 without any electrification whatsoever. However, it could also get a hybrid powertrain option post-launch. It’ll likely be paired with a dual-clutch transmission which will deliver the power to all four wheels.
