G-Wagen or Celebrity Wagen? A List Of Celebs That Own Mercedes’ Over-the-top G-Class SUV

In its prime, the Mercedes-Benz G Wagen was nothing short of a cult in the car world. It’s been a music video favourite, a status symbol, and, moving beyond materialistic things, a very capable SUV in itself. No wonder Indian celebs want a slice of the cake the G-Wagen has to offer, with different stars racking up various of them over the years. So, we’ve compiled a list of the famous Indian personalities that currently own a Mercedes G-Wagen:

Badshah

Badshah loves his cars big and rowdy. And what better car to fit the bill than the legendary G-Wagen? As a result, the Punjabi singer not only owns one, but actually sang about cleaning one in one of his latest song releases. Talk about true love! 

Rohit Shetty

Another Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG can be found in Bollywood director Rohit Shetty’s garage, where it sits alongside his other luxury vehicles. His purchase came in late 2022 and was finished in a plain white hue. Being the AMG variant, his G-Wagen came packing a twin-turbocharged V8 engine tuned by the folks at AMG.

Dulquer Salmaan

Dulquer Salmaan has quite the personality that reverberates beyond the big screen. His love for cars can be seen in his expansive garage, which also happens to include the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG. His G-Wagen was finished in a Designo Olive Green shade and packs a 4.0 litre bi-turbo V8 engine with an output of 585PS and 850Nm.

Jimmy Shergill

Jimmy Shergill had picked up a new G63 AMG variant of the G-Class back in 2018. He went for an interesting colour scheme with white exterior paint and black inserts all around. He also slapped a bull bar on the nose, upping its brawniness. Being the pre-facelift model, his G63 AMG came packing a 5.5-litre V8 petrol engine with 500PS + and 700+Nm of output. 

Shreyas Iyer

Beyond the field, Shreyas Iyer is an avid car enthusiast known to have exotic cars in his garage, including one Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG SUV. It isn’t a standard AMG G Wagen, as Shreyas Iyer wasted no time in slapping a Brabus kit on his ride to enhance the aggressiveness of its design.

MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni’s love affair for automobiles is a well known saga. And the former Indian captain expanded his car collection as he is one of the latest celebs to get the Mercedes-AMG G63. His number wears a special ‘0007’ number plate. This isn’t the first big SUV purchase by Dhoni as he’s also owned one Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and a restored Land Rover Defender.

Orhan Awatramani

Orhan, aka Orry amongst Btown celebs, relentless paparazzis and avid followers, has been spotted roaming around a bright Blue Mercedes G Wagen on multiple ocassions. The SUV didn't originally come in this exterior hue and this is in fact a third-party wrap that has draped the SUV from head to toe. His G-Class doesn’t get the screaming V8 that the AMG variants pack, but still gets a potent 3.0 litre, six-cylinder diesel engine nonetheless.

Vijay Sethupathi

Tamil actor, Vijay Sethupathi, owns a Mercedes G-Class in his garage. He bought the car back in 2021 and chose the diesel 350d varaint for his G Wagen, which boasts the AMG-spec grille and inserts, despite being a non-AMG model.

So while the G-Class might not seem like the go-to Mercedes – with more celebs favouring the flagship GLS – the love for the undeniably cool Gelandewagen is very much real. Currently, the prices for it juggle between Rs 2.55 crore and Rs 4 crore (ex-showroom). It is a rival to the  Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser 300.
