2022 saw a lot of models take on a new avatar in the form of generational upgrades. These updates can sometimes lose the ethos of the car they replace, but when carmakers do get it right, the product can be a revolutionary one.
So without any further ado, let’s dive right into the top five cars that pushed the boundaries for possibilities and were revolutionary over their forerunners:
Under the VW Group’s India 2.0 strategy, the marque brought in the Volkswagen Virtus as the replacement for the Vento sedan, which had lived way past its prime, to say the least. It was the second VW model based on the MQB-AO-IN platform and came in as a breath of fresh air in the compact sedan space.
The sedan immediately had everyone smitten by its looks and the performance on tap. Making the deal even sweeter was the fact that Volkswagen didn’t hold back from brimming the sedan with creature comforts. Check out our first-drive review to know our impressions of VW’s impressive looking sedan.
The compact sedan segment was given some love back this year after being neglected by the likes of compact SUVs. It started with the launch of the Slavia back in February, which replaced the long-running Rapid. Again, the new car was a revolution over its predecessor in every sense.
The fresh and striking styling, punchy powertrain options, and a host of features inside made the Slavia a winner for Skoda. This car, along with the Kushaq, has been the driving force for the Czech carmaker in the country. To know our impressions, check out our in-depth first drive review.
The big daddy of SUVs got a generational makeover this year. The SUV, which has always been known for its ruggedness and bullying nature, has diverged from that path and turned a new leaf. Now known as the Scorpio N, the SUV is more premium than ever; yet, it somehow manages to retain its rugged aspect with impressive off-roading capability as highlighted in this comparison with the Thar.
It's safe to say that the Scorpio N has been a revolutionary product over its forerunners and that statement is further accentuated by its full five-star rating in the recent Global NCAP crash test, as opposed to its predecessor’s zero-star rating. Revolutionary indeed.
The new generation Mercedes C-Class was launched in May this year. The baby Mercedes’ luxury quotient has been taken up a notch. In fact, the C-Class sedan punches way above its weight; so much so, that it's called the baby S-Class.
Now that’s a big promise, calling it the S-Class, but it does live up to the task in the way it looks, rides, and even the way it makes you feel when inside. Saying this sedan is a revolution of the previous generation model might just be an understatement. Check out our in-depth first drive review to know our impressions.
The Hyundai Tucson has always had a tough time ever since it was launched in the country back in 2004. But the whole narrative takes a complete u-turn with the new-generation Tucson, thanks to its head-turning looks, classy interiors, and an array of creature comforts and impressive safety features.
Its case is further strengthened by its powertrain options and driving dynamics, making the SUV a well-rounded package. This is what evolving over the years gets you – a revolutionary end product. To know more about the Tucson, check out our first-drive review.
