Citroen, a few months back, launched the Basalt SUV-coupe on our shores at a very attractive starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Among a sea of subcompact SUVs, the Basalt is the only SUV with a coupe design which sets it apart from the others at this price point! The French carmaker is offering it in three variants, multiple colours and engine options. Out of the three variants, we will be explaining its mid-spec Plus variant using 10 real-world images.

Now coming to the car itself, we usually begin with the design section, but with this variant we prefer starting with the engine options since the exterior and interior details vary based on the powertrain you opt for. Here’s a detailed look at its specifications:

The Plus variant is the only one in its lineup to get both the options of a NA and turbo-petrol engines.
The fascia of the Basalt Plus features halogen headlamps with the NA petrol engine and LED projector headlamps with the turbo-petrol engine. The base-spec engine variant also misses out on fog lamps and a silver skid plate which is available with the more potent turbo-petrol engine. LED DRLs and vertical elements near the fog lamps are available across both options of the mid-spec variant. The car that you see in the pictures is equipped with the NA petrol engine, as confirmed by the photos.

From the sides, the Plus variant sports 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers and misses out on the alloy wheels that are restricted to the top-spec Max variant. The ORVMs are blacked-out and you get body cladding running across the length of the car. The sloping roofline is what gives the SUV a sporty vibe, merging seamlessly into the tailgate.
Coming to the rear, you get wraparound halogen tail lights and a black bumper. The turbo-petrol variants additionally come with a silver skid plate which adds a bit of bulk to the look. Shark fin antenna is restricted to the top-spec variant.
The interior gets a white and black theme (available from this variant onwards) and a grey-coloured fabric seat upholstery. The dashboard is dominated by the 10.2-inch infotainment unit positioned above the AC controls. You get chunky and funky looking AC vents that are a familiar sight on Citroen cars.
With the NA petrol option you get manual AC, while the turbo-petrol option comes with an automatic climate control with rear AC vents. With the latter, you also get a front sliding armrest and a rear reading lamp.
There are two adjustable headrests at the rear along with a central armrest carrying two cupholder slots.Other features on board include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 4 speakers, 7-inch digital driver’s display, steering-mounted audio controls, all four power windows, manual IRVM, and multiple USB charging ports.
Passenger safety includes 6 airbags as standard, an electronic stability program (ESP), TPMS, hill hold, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and reverse parking sensors.
The Citroen Basalt Plus variant is priced from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 12.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Overall pricing of the Basalt ranges from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 13.57 lakh (ex-showroom). At this pricepoint, it competes with subcompact SUVs like the Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and Mahindra XUV 3XO. It also rivals lower-spec variants of the Tata Curvv, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, VW Taigun and Honda Elevate.
