Like clockwork, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has released the monthly sales figures for the month of March 2023. We have already taken a look at the bestselling two-wheelers in previous stories so in this story, let’s go in depth into a particular manufacturer’s sales data: Yamaha.

On the bike side of things, the overall picture is a little bit inconsistent. The Yamaha FZ range, (comprising FZ, FZ-S, FZ-X) one of the more popular offerings in the domestic market, saw a 18%  decline in year-on-year sales even as its sales numbers in March increased by 10% over the previous month.

The Yamaha R15 and MT-15 are two mid-capacity motorcycles that offer brilliant value for the money and their sales figure shore up this statement: the Yamaha R15 (V4 and S) saw a distinct growth of 28% over the previous year and maintained the same consistency in monthly sales. Sales of the Yamaha MT-15 stood at 6,132 units in the previous month and it is only expected to grow with the updates it received recently.

However, the same thing can’t be said about the Yamaha FZ 25, which witnessed zero sales in the Indian market in March, presumably because it still hasn’t been updated to BS6.2 norms. That, however, didn’t stop Yamaha from exporting 952 units to markets abroad.

Coming to the scooter offerings, the Yamaha RayZR, which was among the top ten highest-selling scooters last year, saw a decrease of 23% in year-on-year sales (with 5,026 units sold), though it held itself well and witnessed a marginal 4% growth in monthly sales. On the other hand, sales of Yamaha’s family-oriented scooter, the Fascino, have increased by 32% in the year-on-year comparison and have seen steady growth in March 2023 when compared to the previous month.
