Hero MotoCorp has recently unveiled the new 2023 Hero Xtreme 160R 4V, a motorcycle that showcases a range of upgrades over its predecessor. The latest model introduces several noteworthy changes that enhance both performance and handling without disturbing its brawny design. Let's delve into the key differences between the new Hero Xtreme 160R and the outgoing model.
Firstly, the new Xtreme 160R 4V is available in three variants - Standard, Connect and Pro. Pricing for the new trims are as follows:
New Xtreme 160R 4V |
Prices |
Old Xtreme 160R |
Prices |
Standard |
Rs 1,27,300 |
Double Disc |
Rs 1,22,236 |
Connect |
Rs 1,32,800 |
Stealth |
Rs 1,24,076 |
Pro |
Rs 1,36,500 |
Stealth 2.0 |
Rs 1,30,008 |
(ex-showroom Delhi)
The standard variant is now roughly Rs 5,000 costlier than before. That said, the new Xtreme isn’t just heavy on the pocket, it’s also now heavier in general - almost five or six kilograms heavier, depending on the variant you choose.
However, the biggest change is that the new Xtreme 160R 4V boasts an OBD-2 (BS6.2) compliant, 4-valve, 163cc engine, a significant improvement over the previous BS6 and 2-valve one. This upgrade translates into a power boost, with the new model delivering 16.9PS and 14.6 Nm, compared to the 15.2PS and 14Nm of its predecessor.
Another major enhancement lies in the suspension system. The new Xtreme 160R 4V Pro variant features an upside-down fork, resulting in sportier and more responsive handling. In contrast, the older model relied on a telescopic front fork, which the Standard and Connect continue to get. However, both iterations, old and new, retain the same monoshock setup.
Next, while the Xtreme’s LCD console hasn't really changed, the Connected and Pro models now support Bluetooth connectivity, which was previously available exclusively only on the Stealth Edition of the outgoing model.
Other minor touch points in the new model are, the new switchgear, slightly redesigned headlight and split seat. However, the split seat is only available in the Pro model, other variants have it as an option. The outgoing model only had one option - a one piece seat.
While the underpinnings such as brakes remain unchanged, the new Xtreme 160R 4V continues to get single-channel ABS like it did in the old 160R. If the Pro variant is meant to be a no compromise for the enthusiasts, the safety net of dual-channel ABS being absent, we felt, was a missed opportunity.
Overall, the new Hero Xtreme 160R 4V distinguishes itself with a more advanced engine, increased power and torque figures, an upside-down fork for enhanced handling, and the inclusion of dual-channel ABS. While the price has seen a slight increase, the new model justifies its higher cost with a host of improvements that contribute to a more exhilarating riding experience.
