Honda shared its monthly sales figures for August 2022 recording a commendable 4,62,523 unit sales, potentially the highest for a two-wheeler manufacturer.
However, not five minutes after that Hero MotoCorp shared its sales figure for August, and the Indian bikemaker managed to outsell the Japanese marquee by 85 units, with a total of 4,62, 608 units.
This is the first time Honda has come close to dethroning Hero from its best-selling bike manufacturer title. That said, Honda’s immensely popular scooter, the Activa, has managed to outsell the workhorse of India, the Hero Splendor, in the past.

What’s interesting to note is that Honda works with a very small portfolio that caters to the affordable segment of scooters and bikes in India. Hero, on the other hand, stands contrary to that, widely catering to the commuter segment. And despite Honda’s restricted portfolio, the Japanese bike manufacturer has been able to give tough competition to Hero.
Honda’s most popular two-wheelers include the Honda Activa 6G and Dio scooters, and the Shine, CD110 and Unicorn in the commuter bikes segment.
To rival that, Hero’s boasts of a vastly popular portfolio. Even the Splendor range contributes to most of the company’s sales, it is further supplemented by healthy sales figures from the HF Deluxe, Glamour and Passion Pro in the commuter segment. In scooters, it offers Desitini 125 and Maestro Edge, and a plus for the bikemaker is the well-received and most affordable Hero XPulse 200 ADV motorcycle.
Hero is all set to launch a sporty 125cc scooter this festive season that is bound to improve the bikemaker’s sales in the future. Even Honda has confirmed a 100cc commuter in the works to compete with the Splendor.
