Both models are based on the same 400cc platform and look exactly similar to their respective 500cc siblings

Honda’s home market, Japan, has received two new offerings from the manufacturer: the all-new Honda NX400 and the updated CBR400R.

Both the CBR400R and the NX400 are based on the 400cc platform and interestingly, they look very similar to their respective 500cc siblings – the CBR500R and the Honda NX500. The CBR400R supersport has the same updated aggressive design with the dual LED headlights and sharp tail section. Additionally, it is really hard to differentiate between the NX400 and the NX500, except for the stickering on the rear panel.

Updates on the CBR400R include a new 5-inch TFT instrument console with three display modes: Bar, Circle and Simple. It also gets smartphone connectivity for call and SMS alerts, music playback and turn-by-turn navigation through the Honda RoadSync app. Moreover, it now gets Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), which is basically Honda’s version of traction control. The supersport is powered by a 399cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine producing 46PS and 38Nm.

The all-new Honda NX400 is also powered by the same 400cc engine producing identical power and torque figures. But compared to the CBR400R, the NX400 (being an ADV) gets a longer wheelbase of 1435mm, higher ground clearance of 150mm, taller seat height of 800mm and a heavier kerb weight of 196kg. It also gets a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel setup compared to the 17-inch wheels at both ends that its supersport sibling gets. The ADV also comes equipped with the same TFT instrument console with traction control and smartphone connectivity.

Both the Honda CBR400R and the NX400 are unlikely to come to India anytime soon, as the Japanese manufacturer has just launched the all-new Honda NX500 in India. Based on that move, the Honda CBR500R is the more likely supersport to arrive in India by the end of 2024 to compete with the likes of the Aprilia RS 457, Yamaha R3, the Kawasaki Ninja 500 (which the bikemaker has recently teased) and the upcoming KTM RC 390
