Honda QC1 has been launched in India. The scooter is one of the first electric offerings from the Japanese manufacturer in India. Now, you might be wondering how much you can save with the QC1 when compared to the regular petrol-powered Honda Activa. In this article we will be giving you a detailed breakdown of the costs.
The Honda QC1 has a 1.5kWh fixed battery pack which offers a claimed range of 80km. The battery takes 6 hours 50 minutes to completely charge using the provided 330W charger. That results in a total electricity consumption of about 2.28kWh, or about 2.28 units of electricity.
At an average electricity cost of Rs 11 per unit, the total charging cost comes to about Rs 25 for 80km of range. That results in Rs 0.31 / km. Now assuming a monthly riding of 1000km, the monthly charging cost would be Rs 310.
The Honda Activa 6G offers an average mileage of 57.7kmpl in mixed riding conditions (city and highway). So if you’re someone who travels around 1000km per month, you will need 17.3 litres of petrol. Now, with an average price of petrol is Rs 100.7/litre, you will end up spending Rs 1742.11 per month on petrol.
Comparing the Honda QC1 to the petrol-powered Activa, the difference is quite large. You will be spending around Rs 1,432 more every month with the petrol-powered Honda Activa! This is a massive difference, so yes, we can say that the Honda QC1 does offer massive savings.
However there’s a small factor of the price as well. Here’s a comparison between the QC 1 and the various Activa 6G models.
Honda Activa 6G Variant |
Price (ex-showroom Delhi) |
Honda QC1 Price (ex-showroom) |
Difference |
Activa 6G STD |
Rs 78,684 |
Rs 90,000 |
Rs 11,316 |
Activa 6G DLX |
Rs 81,184 |
Rs 8,816 |
|
Activa 6G H-Smart |
Rs 84,685 |
Rs 5,315 |
While you’d save on running costs with the QC1, you’d be spending more to buy it. However, with the aforementioned savings, you’d recover the extra money you pay upfront for the QC1 within 4 to 8 months, depending on the variant you get.
That said, you would also need to consider the fact that the QC1 would need to be fully charged every couple days, while the Activa 6G would require refuelling maybe once a week, with its range of more than 250km. There’s a time and convenience factor to be considered too while making a decision.
