Honda has filed design patents for two scooters in India – Winner X and NS125LA – and interestingly both scooters are unlike any other product on the Japanese bikemakers' Indian portfolio. What are they? Read on.
First up, the Winner X – a sporty underbone geared scooter powered by a 150cc engine. Available in international markets, this scooter rolls on 17-inch alloys and belts out 15.6PS and 13.5Nm from its liquid-cooled heart. Now we know what you are thinking, this could be the perfect rival to Yamaha Aerox 155 in India. Well, we would say so too.
The second design patent is for the NS125LA, a neo-retro scooter with its quirky styling and a 125cc powertrain that makes for a perfect family scooter. This China specific-model is powered by a 124.9cc air-cooled motor producing 8.97PS and 9.87Nm. It would be the perfect alternative to the Suzuki Access 125, which it also slightly resembles, and the Yamaha Fascino 125.
Now to the sad bit. Both scooters are unlikely to make their way to India and Honda must have filed the patent to just safeguard its intellectual property. This isn’t new, as the Japanese marque has gone the same route before with the likes of the Vario 160, ADV350 and even the Honda U-Go electric scooter.
Summing up, while Winner X And NS125LA won’t be launched here, we are particularly interested in what Honda will do with respect to its electric offering here in India. Reports have disclosed that we will be getting an e-scooter built from the ground up for our challenging weather conditions and terrain. More on that here.
