After a long wait, Hyundai has finally entered the micro SUV space with the Exter. It is being offered in five broad variants: EX, S, SX, SX(O) and SX(O) Connect. While we already brought to you the images of the mid-spec SX trim with the CNG kit, we have now got our hands on the photos of the second-from-base S variant.
The model pictured was finished in the Atlas White paint option. Being one of the lower variants, the Exter S is provided with halogen headlights instead of projector units (connected by the textured pattern), while it has the same H-shaped LED DRLs as seen on the top-spec SX(O) trim. Although it has the ‘Exter’ badge right below the bonnet line, it’s almost camouflaged due to the white paint. Moving down, it has the silver-finished skid plate which is available right from the base EX variant.
When viewed from the sides, the Exter’s S variant is seen with body coloured door handles and outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs). Although Hyundai is providing ORVM-mounted LED turn indicators on this variant, it is only available with the AMT variant. As seen in these images, the Exter S is offered with 14-inch steel wheels with a plastic cover. From this variant onwards, the micro SUV also gets a gloss-black finish for the C-pillar.

At the rear, it has H-shaped elements in the LED taillights, which are connected by a piano-black strip (having a textured finish as well). It misses out on some features like rear wiper, washer, defogger, shark fin antenna and also the roof-mounted spoiler.
Its cabin is distinguished by the light grey theme and fabric upholstery, with a white applique on the passenger side of the dashboard featuring a textured pattern (as seen on the Grand i10 Nios). Due to its positioning in the variant lineup, the Exter S misses out on any kind of chrome detailing inside the cabin.
But In terms of features, it gets all you need, including a digitised driver display, height-adjustable driver seat, an 8-inch touchscreen system with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and manual AC.
Its safety kit includes six airbags, TPMS, 3-point seatbelts for all seats, and rear parking sensors. That said, features like the single-pane sunroof, cruise control, wireless phone charging and even a reversing camera are limited to the higher-spec variants.
