The Hyundai Exter has been launched in India and first units have arrived at dealerships. It comes in a total of five trims and two powertrain options and you can take a look at the variant-wise prices here. Until now, most of the pictures you have seen online are of the top-spec SX (O) trim. But if you want to take a look at the mid-spec SX trim with CNG trim, then scroll down as we give you an explainer in seven images:
Up front, the mid-spec Hyundai Exter SX looks exactly the same as the top-spec trim, which is a good thing. It gets the LED DRLs with the H insignia and projector headlamps below it that are placed in a large rectangular air dam. There’s also a silver skid plate that gives the front end a nice beefy appearance.
In profile, the only difference between this particular trim and the top-spec SX (O) variant is that it rolls on 15-inch stylized steel wheels. But Hyundai has cleverly designed it in such a way that it gives the impression of an alloy rim.

Even at the rear, styling wise there’s no difference between the SX and SX (O) trims. It gets the same square tail lamps with the H-motif and a gloss black plastic trim connecting both the units. The rear bumper also features a skid plate that gives off a macho look. Like the Hyundai Exter’s design? Let us know in the comments.
Inside, the Exter’s dashboard design is exactly the same as the Grand i10 Nios. This ain’t a bad thing as the Nios had a well appointed dashboard design in the first place. It also gets ‘EXTER’ boldly embossed in the seats to remind you what you’re driving. You get to choose from three colour schemes: black/green, black/blue and black/light grey.
This being a mid-spec trim it loses out on niceties such as a dashcam, cruise control, a wireless phone charger and push-button start. But it still gets all the essentials, including an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, steering-mounted audio controls and even a sunroof.
On the safety front, this trim packs six airbags as standard, a tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and three-point seatbelts for all occupants.
This, along with the lower-spec S trim, are the only ones offering all the powertrain options. So you get a choice of either a 1.2-litre petrol or a 1.2-litre CNG powertrain. A 5-speed manual is standard while the petrol engine gets the option of a 5-speed AMT. Check out its detailed specifications in this table below:
