Hyundai has introduced a new Sportz (O) variant for its premium hatchback, the i20. The move appears to narrow the price gap between the mid-spec Sportz and the top-end Asta variants, which differ by nearly one lakh rupees. Let's delve into details what upgrades it gets for a premium of Rs 35,000 over the Sportz variant.
The upgrades are primarily focused on the interior rather than the exterior:
Overall, the cabin of the new Sportz (O) variant offers a similar experience to the Sportz variant, but with the addition of leather treatment on the front door armrests, providing a premium touch.
One of the most popular features for cars today, the sunroof becomes more affordable with the new i20 Sportz (O) variant, but is still limited to the manual transmission option.

Another key comfort for a premium cabin experience, the new mid-spec i20 variant also gets the wireless charging pad over the regular Sportz variant. Combined with the wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, this creates a cable-free centre console.
Apart from these enhancements, there are no other upgrades over the Sportz variant, which you can check out in more detail over here. The new Sportz (O) variant doesn’t offer any visual upgrades over the Sportz variant. It features halogen headlights, LED taillights, and rides on the same 16-inch steel wheels as the Sportz variant.
Under the hood, the Hyundai i20 is only offered with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers combined output of up to 88 PS and 115 Nm. It is offered with both 5-speed manual transmission and CVT-type automatic transmission. Only the sportier i20 N Line gets a turbo-petrol option.
Prices for the Hyundai i20 Sportz (O) variant start atRs 8.73 lakh and go up to Rs 9.78 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the transmission choice and colour tone. It rivals the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Tata Altroz.
