Hyundai India has teased the facelifted 2023 i20 hatchback ahead of its expected debut in the upcoming festive season. This will be the first update for the carmaker’s premium hatchback, which has been on sale since November 2020. We also suspect the sportier N Line version to get a similar design treatment.

The facelifted Hyundai i20 gets a large cascading grille that mimics the one seen in the new Verna. The grille is flanked by a revised pair of LED headlights and below them is the tweaked front bumper. In profile, changes are expected to be limited to new alloys, while the rear-end tweaks are likely to be limited to tail lamps and bumpers.
Inside, the updated i20 should retain the same dashboard layout as the current model. But to give it a breath of fresh air, Hyundai could tweak the colour scheme and upholstery and offer a revised digitised display. The hatch could also get new features such as a dual dash cam, ventilated front seats and probably a 360-degree camera. Hyundai could also use this update to make six airbags as standard.

Features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, a Bose sound system and a single-pane sunroof should be carried forward. Safety should be taken care of by six airbags, electronic stability control and parking sensors.
Underneath the hood, the i20 should carry forward its 83PS 1.2-litre petrol and 120PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engines. The latter might get a proper 6-speed manual instead of the 6-speed iMT. Rest of the transmissions – 5-speed MT and CVT for 1.2-litre petrol as well as 7-speed DCT for turbo-petrol – should be carried forward unchanged.
The updated Hyundai i20 is expected to command a minor premium over the current model that is priced from Rs 7.46 lakh (ex-showroom). It will renew its rivalry with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Tata Altroz.
