Hyundai’s luxury arm Genesis has showcased the exteriors of its upcoming G90 flagship sedan. Although Genesis hasn’t divulged any specs or feature details, the new G90 is visibly sleeker and looks wider than the model it replaces. It is expected to be launched globally in early 2022, and if Hyundai brings Genesis to India, the G90 or its long-wheelbase version might actually make it to our shores.

At the front, the Genesis gets interesting new headlights with the brand’s’ ‘Two-Line’ design. The massive front grille extends below the bumper line into the wide air dam below. In India, where a front number plate is mandatory, the plate would sit awkwardly over the giant grille.

Interestingly, the Genesis G90 has a clamshell bonnet -- notice the absence of shutlines on the front fascia. The bonnet extends to the headlight and grille, wraps around the wheel arches, and extends down to the trim pieces on the fenders.

The rear features unique full-width angular tail lamps with the same two-line effect. The number plate, parking sensors and reversing camera is placed at the bottom of the bumper for a cleaner look. At the side, the window line drops downward for a Maserati Quattroporte-esque C-pillar, and the 20-inch wheels would surely stand out in an upscale parking lot.

We’ll have to wait until the G90’s launch event to learn about its powertrain. It could get the 380PS/530Nm 3.5-litre turbo petrol engine from the G80 sedan, although the older G90’s 425PS 5-litre V8 might not make it to the 2023 model. Similar to the G80 sedan and GV80 SUV, the G90 could even get a powerful electric powertrain with a 370PS/700Nm output!

The Genesis G90 globally competes with European luxury sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8, and the BMW 7 Series. Reports suggest that Hyundai is evaluating the Genesis luxury brand for India. If the G90 does make it to India, it is likely to be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) initially, so prices are likely to start at around Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2 crore.
