For all the right reasons, the fully-faired F99 is vastly different from the F77 with active aero and a 90kW motor!

The Ultraviolette F99 Factory Racing Program was unveiled at EICMA 2023 recently and it is a race-spec bike with its origins tracing back to the road-going Ultraviolette F77. But, how does it differ from the production electric bike? Let’s find out:

Design

The Ultraviolette F99 Factory Racing Program gets a full fairing with a razor-sharp front end. With angular design lines all over, the track-spec bike looks pretty menacing. The rear end is more swooped up compared to that of the F77’s and also gets winglets there. It also gets winglets and ducts on the front cowl and side panels as well as carbon fibre wheel covers.

The F77 gets a super-futuristic design with the sleek front-end and the chunky LED DRL. The large side panel covers the big 7.1kWh capacity battery (or 10.3kWh in case of the Recon variant) and also gets air intakes. The fairing may not be as extravagant as the F99, but still manages to look absolutely elegant, particularly in the red colour scheme.

Powertrain

It gets a blistering top speed of 265kmph and to facilitate such performance, Ultaviolette decided to power the F99 with a liquid-cooled motor that generates a peak power of 90kW. Ultraviolette hasn’t specified the details of the battery, but that isnt surprising as range would never be a concern for a race-only bike. We do hope the production-spec F99 (scheduled to be launched in 2025) gets as much range as the F77.

The standard variant of the F77 gets a 7.1kWh capacity battery while the Recon variant gets a 10.3kWh capacity battery which translates to IDC (Indian Driving Conditions) claimed ranges of 206km and 307km respectively. It gets a peak power output of 27kW and a top speed of 140kmph in the standard variant while the Recon variant gets a peak power output of 29kW and a top speed of 147kmph. While it may not be anywhere as fast as the F99, the F77’s top speed is still more than enough for our roads.

Underpinnings

The F99 Factory Racing Program gets carbon fibre bodywork, steel hybrid frame and an aluminium swingarm. Suspension duties are taken care of by a premium gold-finished Ohlins inverted fork and a Ohlins monoshock suspension setup (both adjustable) and also gets a 120/70 R17 front and 180/55 R17 rear slicks. With a kerb weight of just 178kg, it is fast and light! It should also be able to shed speed effectively thanks to the dual front discs with Brembo radial calipers, and a rear skeletal disc (for maximum weight savings) with Brembo single-piston caliper.

Suspension duties in the F77 are taken care of by a 41mm upside-down fork (non-adjustable) and a monoshock setup (preload adjustable) while braking duties are taken care of by a 320mm disc brake at the front with 4-piston radial caliper and a 230mm disc at the rear with a single piston floating caliper and dual-channel ABS. It gets a 110/70-R17 front and 150/60-R17 rear tyre setup.

Features

In the features department, the F99 is insane! It gets active aerodynamics and the ducts on the windshield and front cowl are part of it. The active aero on the windshield optimizes the airflow over the rider’s helmet, reducing drag in the process. And that’s not all, the winglets on the side panels are called ‘Air Blades’ and actuate electronically in real time, adapting to lean angles in order to enhance downforce while cornering!

On the other hand, the Ultraviolette F77 gets a 5-inch TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity. It comes equipped with 3 riding modes: Glide, Combat and Ballistic and also gets a reverse mode for assisted parking.

Price and Availability

Even though the F99 Factory Racing Program is a race-spec bike, production version models will also be made and as mentioned earlier, Ultraviolette says it will be launched globally in 2025. Despite all the tech dumbing down for the sake of ease of production, it will still be pretty expensive. We expect it to fetch a price tag of Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Ultraviolette F77’s standard variant costs Rs 3,80,000 while the Recon variant is priced at Rs 4,55,000 (ex-showroom Bengaluru, not eligible for FAME 2 subsidy).
