The Tata Altroz Racer is one of the newest cars on the block, and arguably, one of the hottest ones as well with all its ‘sporty’ updates. While you can take in all there is to know about the Altroz Racer in our detailed article, this story deep dives into the details of the base-spec R1 variant using 6 images:
Despite being the entry-level variant, the Altroz Racer R1 looks identical to the other variants. It gets all the changes seen on the other variants, including the black roof and hood, the stripes, the ‘Racer’ badging, the dual exhaust tips, and ofcourse, the new hue options.
It even gets the same dark-finished 16-inch alloys wheels as standard, and there’s nothing visual to set the base-spec Altroz apart from its top-spec variants, save for the camera module on the ORVM that comes in with the surround view camera.
Note: The 7-inch sem-digital driver's display won't be available in the base variant
The visual similarity with the top-spec variants continues inside the cabin, where you get a similar treatment with the orange inserts and stitching. The stripes on the seats too are similar, and you’ll only notice differences when it comes to the features department.
Despite being loaded with features like a 10.25-inch infotainment system, 4-inch semi-digital driver’s display, ambient lighting, 8 speakers (4 Speakers + 4 Tweeters), auto AC, and rear AC vents, it still misses out on some equipment. The omissions include a sunroof, wireless phone charger, 7-inch semi-digital driver’s display, air purifier, ventilated seats connected car technology and a surround view camera.
There are no powertrain differences between the Altroz Racer’s three variants. All variants get the same Nexon-sourced 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which puts out 120PS and 170Nm. There’s a sole 6-speed manual transmission on offer, no automatic transmission.

The base-spec R1 variant of the Tata Altroz Racer is priced at Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-spec R3 variant retails at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Altroz Racer rivals the Hyundai i20 N Line. It’s also a sportier alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza.
